Captain Henry Harris, 72, of Tamaroa, passed away at 3:25 A.M., Friday, December 17, 2004 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Captain had worked as a washbox operator at Captain Mine.  He was also a retired farmer.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of Du Quoin American Legion, American Thresherman Association and UMW of A.
He was born October 30, 1932 at Tamaroa, IL, the son of Richard and Mary (Boismenu) Harris.
He married Ruth E. McCowen on March 21, 1960 at Mt. Vernon, IL and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Tamaroa, two sons - Carl H. Harris and special friend Cindy Otto of Tamaroa, and Charles Ray Dudley and wife Vicki of Keizer, OR, one daughter - Linda Batson and husband Alan of Tamaroa, grandchildren - Jennifer Wright and husband Matt of Pinckneyville, Ryan Batson and friend Jeni Kellerman of Pinckneyville, Catlyn Otto and Garrin Otto both of Du Quoin and one great grandson - Joshua Wright of Pinckneyville, two brothers - Allen Harris and wife Naomi and William Harris and wife Donna, all of Tamaroa, two sisters - Jenny Cizick of Tamaroa and Susie Ernst and husband Vern of Swanwick, and one aunt - Melissa Boismenu.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother - Hosea Harris, one sister - Sarah Bathon and one great grandchild - Noah Wright.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, December 20, 2004 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with Bro. Jerry Aken officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M., Sunday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.
Interment will be in the Tamaroa Cemetery at Tamaroa.
Military graveside rites will be conducted.
Friends may make memorials to the Tamaroa Fire Department and will be accepted at the funeral home.
